▍Who is Pyrois?

In the "ZTALK | Season 3 Special Preview," the developers teased: "Following a series of unforeseen events, the power that has long laid dormant within Phaethon—the Legacy of Helios—will finally manifest before everyone in the form of the Etheric Other: Pyrois."

Helios was once a top-tier research institution in Old Eridu, where the siblings, Wise and Belle, grew up. When the Old Capital fell, the Helios Institute was destroyed, leaving the siblings as the sole inheritors of its legacy. It now appears that Helios implanted a unique power within them. In Version 3.0, this power takes a physical shape as Etheric Other: Pyrois, the new character we are introducing today.

▍Zenless Zone Zero Protagonist More Combat Avatars In Future

1. The Mythological Inspiration for Pyrois

This setting draws its inspiration from Greek mythology. Helios is the god of the Sun, Phaethon is the son of Helios, and Pyrois is one of the four immortal horses that pull the Sun’s chariot. In the original myth, Helios allowed Phaethon to drive the chariot, but Phaethon lost control, nearly destroying the world. Zeus was forced to strike Phaethon down with a thunderbolt to restore peace.

2. The Future Combat Avatar

Translating this into the world of Zenless Zone Zero, it is possible that the Fall of the Old Capital was caused by Helios allowing Phaethon to wield the power of the "Chariot," which then spiraled out of control. Following this event, the siblings suffered memory loss and started over from scratch as small-time Video Store Managers.

There are four horses in total. Pyrois is one of them, and another is named Aethos, which likely corresponds to the Proxy's Bangboo, Eous. With two horses still unrevealed, it hints that the Protagonists may unlock two additional combat avatar in the future.
