Severian is an upcoming S-Rank Wind Attack Agent arriving in Zenless Zone Zero Version 3.3. He is built around fast-paced on-field combat, Perfect Dodges, enhanced Basic Attacks, and a resource system that rewards precise timing.
Unlike a conventional Attack Agent who simply stays on the field and repeats a fixed combo, Severian's kit revolves around turning enemy attacks into opportunities. His Perfect Dodge, Wind Rider, Gleaming Shadow, and Flowing Breath mechanics all contribute to his sustained damage rotation.

Severian is a Wind Attack Agent from the Metropolitan Order Division. His combat style focuses heavily on timing and active field control rather than simply relying on raw damage multipliers. His Core Passive, Endless Wind, provides a substantial CRIT DMG increase while also allowing him to turn well-timed defensive actions into offensive opportunities.
At maximum Core Skill investment, Severian gains 60% CRIT DMG from his Core Passive, while his Additional Ability also provides CRIT Rate and Base ATK.

Severian's kit is built around four important mechanics:
Understanding these mechanics is more important than simply stacking ATK and CRIT.

Gleaming Shadow allows Severian to automatically dodge certain incoming attacks when he fails to actively evade them.
When Severian has this effect and is hit by a non-Control Skill attack, he can consume a stack to automatically dodge the attack and trigger Basic Attack: Fierce Whirl.
This makes Gleaming Shadow both a defensive safety net and an offensive resource.

Perfect Dodge is central to Severian's gameplay.
Perfect Dodges can be triggered through:
Each Perfect Dodge contributes to Severian's Wind Rider mechanic, allowing him to increase the damage of his subsequent entry attacks.

Severian can gain up to 2 stacks of Wind Rider through Perfect Dodges.
When Wind Rider is active, switching to Severian or entering through Quick Assist can trigger his Entry Skill. If he enters the field through his Entry Skill, Chain Attack, or Ultimate, the Wind Rider stacks are consumed to increase the final hit's damage.
At the current high-level Core Skill values, consuming two stacks can provide a substantial fixed damage multiplier increase, making proper Wind Rider management a major part of Severian's damage optimization.

Flowing Breath is Severian's main combat resource. He gains Flowing Breath when hitting enemies with specific skills or triggering Perfect Dodges.
The resource has a maximum of 150 points. Once Severian reaches 100 Flowing Breath, holding the corresponding input consumes 100 points and launches his enhanced Basic Attack, Basic Attack: Azure Wind Shadow Hunt.
This enhanced Basic Attack is one of the most important parts of his damage loop, so wasting Flowing Breath outside a proper damage window can reduce his overall DPS.

Recommended upgrade order:
Core Skill > Basic Attack > Special Attack > Chain Attack > Assist > Dodge

Severian's signature W-Engine is currently his strongest option because it directly supports his CRIT-focused Attack build. Current Version 3.3 test data lists the signature W-Engine at 713 Base ATK with 24% CRIT Rate, while its passive provides additional CRIT DMG, ATK, and Wind RES Ignore effects after Basic Attack hits.
These effects fit Severian particularly well because his kit already provides a large amount of CRIT DMG through his Core Passive. The signature W-Engine therefore helps balance his CRIT profile while improving the damage of his main Basic Attack sequence.

The Brimstone is a strong alternative for players who do not want to pull Severian's signature W-Engine. It provides a strong ATK-focused setup for an on-field Attack Agent who can maintain its passive during extended field time.
For players with limited Polychromes, keeping a strong existing Attack W-Engine can be more efficient than pulling the signature purely to increase one character's ceiling.

4-Piece Dawn's Bloom is currently the leading Drive Disc option for Severian because his enhanced Basic Attack plays a major role in his damage rotation. The set is particularly attractive if your Severian build is designed around repeatedly generating Flowing Breath and converting it into enhanced Basic Attacks.

Your 2-piece set can depend on your existing stats and team.
2-Piece Woodpecker Electro is a practical choice when you need additional CRIT Rate.
2-Piece Puffer Electro becomes more attractive in teams that deliberately stack PEN Ratio, particularly when paired with Rina.
Slot | Main Stat | Priority |
|---|---|---|
Disc 4 | CRIT Rate / CRIT DMG | CRIT Rate is the safer default |
Disc 5 | Wind DMG Bonus / PEN Ratio / ATK% | Depends on team and substats |
Disc 6 | ATK% | Recommended |
Severian's main stat priority is:
CRIT Rate > CRIT DMG > ATK% > PEN

Severian |
Norma |
Astra Yao |
|---|---|---|---|
Role | Main DPS | Stun | Support |
Function | Deals sustained Wind DMG and converts Flowing Breath into enhanced Basic Attacks | Creates Stun windows and enables Severian's burst sequence | Provides team support and helps amplify Severian's damage window |
This is one of the current test-server team structures for Severian. Norma provides the Stun framework while Astra Yao supplies broad team support, allowing Severian to focus on his extended damage sequence.

Severian |
Dialyn |
Astra Yao |
|---|---|---|---|
Role | Main DPS | Stun | Support |
Function | Primary on-field damage dealer | Quickly creates Stun windows for Severian | Provides offensive support during Severian's field time |
Dialyn is another Stun option currently being tested with Severian.
This setup focuses on creating a clear sequence:
Stun enemy → bring Severian onto the field → activate his Wind Rider effects → build Flowing Breath → use enhanced Basic Attack.
Character |
Severian |
Norma |
Sunna |
|---|---|---|---|
Role | Main DPS | Stun | Support |
Function | Sustained Wind damage | Creates Stun windows | Provides additional team utility and buffs |
This is another current test-server combination. It can be useful for players who already have Norma and Sunna and want to build a Severian-centered Attack team without relying on Astra Yao.
Severian already has access to his primary gameplay mechanics at M0, so players do not need high Mindscape investment to use him.
Current beta information highlights several notable upgrades:
Mindscape | Main Effect |
|---|---|
M1 | Improves starting resources and significantly strengthens CRIT DMG-related effects |
M2 | Enhances his Entry Skill and improves his combat resource mechanics |
M3 | Skill levels +2 |
M4 | Adds DEF Ignore after specific actions |
M5 | Skill levels +2 |
M6 | Expands his resource ceiling and significantly improves enhanced Basic Attack damage |
Current beta data indicates that M1 and M2 offer the most meaningful early upgrades to his gameplay, while M6 is aimed at players seeking maximum investment. These effects remain subject to change before release.
For most players, the priority should therefore be:
M0 Severian → Signature W-Engine → additional Mindscapes rather than immediately aiming for M6.
Severian is an S-Rank Wind Attack Agent and an on-field DPS. His damage is built around enhanced Basic Attacks, Perfect Dodges, Wind Rider, and Flowing Breath.
No. Roxy is one possible Stun partner, but current testing also includes Norma and Dialyn. The better choice depends on the rest of your roster and the support available to Severian.
Start with CRIT Rate, then build CRIT DMG and ATK%. PEN can become more valuable in teams designed around PEN Ratio.
His core gameplay is available at M0. Current beta data suggests M1 and M2 provide meaningful upgrades, while M6 is primarily for players looking for maximum investment.
Severian is a Wind Attack Agent designed around Perfect Dodge timing, Wind Rider stacks, and Flowing Breath management. His enhanced Basic Attack is the centerpiece of his damage rotation, while his Core Skill provides substantial CRIT DMG and strengthens his unique combat mechanics.
For the current Version 3.3 beta, Dawn's Bloom, a CRIT-focused build, and a team built around a reliable Stun and long-lasting Support buffs form the foundation of his recommended setup. Since his numbers and mechanics can still change before launch, players should check the final version before committing their resources.
