The new Survivor “Prodigy” is coming to Identity V on September 30, 2026. Known as Kai and called “Shéntóng” in the Chinese version, Prodigy is a kiting-focused Survivor who uses a hamster companion to create and control dirt balls. His kit combines chase extension, area control, Hunter disruption, and obstacle interaction, giving him a distinct playstyle among current Survivors.
Prodigy will officially enter the Manor on September 30, 2026, and the character is currently being tested on the Test Server. He is also featured as the new Survivor in Season 44 Essence 2.

Prodigy's main mechanic revolves around his Rodent Companion, which can create a dirt ball after receiving specific commands through his harmonica.
As the dirt ball rolls, it gradually becomes larger and leaves a Dirt Trail that lasts for 5 seconds. A Hunter standing on the trail gains 8 Dirt per second.

Prodigy can also kick the dirt ball toward a Hunter. When the ball hits a character or map object, it Bursts, creating a temporary area that applies additional Dirt and slows Hunters. Larger dirt balls can also knock Hunters back farther.
The current Test Server values are:
Creating a ball consumes 10% of his available resource, while growing the ball consumes more resource during rolling. Once the hamster resource is exhausted, existing balls gradually disappear.
This trait gives Prodigy two important states: Pushing State and Performance State.

In Pushing State, Prodigy works together with the hamster to push a sufficiently large dirt ball. His movement speed increases to 3.92 m/s, although his turning speed becomes slower because of the dirt ball.
In Performance State, Prodigy can ride on the dirt ball himself. His movement speed becomes 3.8 m/s, and he can control the ball through pallets, windows, and drops from high ground. Each such interaction consumes 15% of the dirt ball's maximum size.
This is one of the most important parts of Prodigy's chase ability. Gameplay testing shows that riding the ball allows him to repeatedly interact with windows and pallets while using the ball itself to absorb some incoming attacks.
Since Prodigy is primarily a Kiter / Support Survivor rather than a dedicated Rescuer, the standard 39-style build is a reasonable starting point.
Knee Jerk Reflex works naturally with Prodigy's window and pallet gameplay. His Performance State already encourages him to move through obstacles, so extra mobility after vaulting can help him transition between nearby kiting areas.
Borrowed Time provides an important safety net for the endgame and is commonly used by non-rescue Survivors. Current Identity V Persona references continue to list the 39 build as a standard option for kiting-oriented Survivors.
For the remaining points, prioritize talents that improve survivability and transition speed rather than building Prodigy as a rescue-focused Survivor.
If you are particularly comfortable using reaction-based skills, an alternative build can replace the vault-focused path with Flywheel Effect. This gives Prodigy another tool for avoiding Hunter attacks and abilities.

One of the biggest beginner mistakes is spending too much time making the ball as large as possible.
The test gameplay shows that Prodigy's ball creation is relatively slow, especially against fast-chase Hunters. A smaller ball that is deployed immediately can often create more value than a maximum-size ball that arrives too late.
The Dirt Trail stays on the ground for 5 seconds, so you do not always need to hit the Hunter directly.
Instead, roll the ball through areas the Hunter is likely to pass through. The Dirt accumulation can gradually create pressure and eventually trigger the 100-Dirt interruption.
Large dirt balls are particularly useful when a Hunter is approaching a narrow route or trying to pass through a chokepoint.
Because the ball can push the Hunter backward, Prodigy can use it to create additional distance rather than simply dealing damage.
The gameplay test recommends moving backward while controlling the ball because this makes it easier to keep obstacles between Prodigy and the Hunter.
This technique is especially useful around pallets, where the dirt ball can simultaneously provide movement options and a physical barrier.
Performance State is especially useful when approaching windows or pallets.
Ride the dirt ball toward the obstacle, then use the vault interaction to move through the area. The ball can also take priority for some Hunter attacks, giving Prodigy additional protection during the maneuver.
Prodigy's biggest limitation is resource consumption.
Creating dirt balls, increasing their size, and using Performance State all consume the resources connected to his hamster mechanic. The uploaded test specifically identifies this resource system and slow ball creation as potential weaknesses in fast-paced chases.
Managing the number and size of your balls is therefore just as important as aiming them correctly.
Prodigy is scheduled to officially enter the Manor on September 30, 2026. He is currently available for testing on the Test Server.
Prodigy uses a hamster companion to create and control dirt balls. The balls can leave Dirt Trails, accumulate Dirt on Hunters, push Hunters, and create Burst areas.
Current character information places Prodigy in both the Kiter and Support categories.
A 39-style build with Knee Jerk Reflex and Borrowed Time is a practical starting point for his kiting-focused gameplay. Flywheel-based alternatives can also be considered depending on player preference and matchup.
Prodigy is easy to understand but takes practice to master, especially when managing ball size, resources, positioning, timing, and movement.
Prodigy is a unique new Survivor built around dirt-ball control, Hunter disruption, and flexible kiting. His ability to create obstacles, push Hunters, accumulate Dirt, and ride his own dirt balls gives him several tools for extending a chase. However, his resource management and relatively slow ball creation mean that poor timing can quickly reduce his effectiveness.
As Prodigy approaches his September 30, 2026 release, his final numbers may still change after Test Server adjustments. For the latest Identity V guides, builds, and top-up updates, follow TOPUPlive and check back after the official release.
