HSR 3.4 Serval & Qingque

Serval and Qingque, both 4-star characters, are currently relatively niche. Serval has had brief employment opportunities only after the introduction of Pure Fiction, otherwise she's mostly been benched.

Qingque, as a 4-star powerhouse since launch, had a significant period of strength after Sparkle's release, serving as an excellent low-Eidolon high-score chasing tool for lucky players. However, with the continuous release of new main DPS characters, players no longer need the unstable performance of Qingque.

HSR 3.4 Argenti

Argenti is Star Rail's first Ultimate-focused main DPS, heavily reliant on Ultimate cycling for damage output. He possesses a two-phase Ultimate: the first phase has good mob-clearing capability, while the second phase boasts extremely strong single-target burst potential. However, due to Argenti's conventional mechanics, he rarely finds employment opportunities in most situations.

HSR 3.4 Himeko

Himeko, as a standard S-rank character, had very awkward strength in the early days of Star Rail and was once considered only suitable for clearing mobs. It wasn't until the introduction of Pure Fiction that Himeko staged a remarkable comeback. Paired with the 4-star Herta, she possesses terrifying mob-clearing ability, becoming a must-build, meta-defining combo that dominated usage rates across multiple Pure Fiction iterations.

After the arrival of The Herta, Himeko, as the previous generation's Erudition main DPS, has finally stepped down. Her popularity has significantly waned, but veteran players won't forget Himeko's glory days in the early Pure Fiction era.

HSR 3.4 Jing Yuan

Jing Yuan is a limited 5-star main DPS from Star Rail's 1.0 era. Because his damage mechanics rely on Lightning-Lord stacks and have delayed bursts, and the Lightning-Lord itself has no action advance or speed-up mechanics, only advancing its action gauge at its base speed, the timing of his damage output is uncontrollable. This led to Jing Yuan receiving significant criticism.

However, with Sunday's release, Jing Yuan finally received his most crucial upgrade. The Lightning-Lord's damage rhythm and capability were greatly enhanced. Relying on his still decent numbers, he remains viable even in the 3.0 era, making him an exemplary case of a main DPS staging a comeback against the odds.

HSR 3.4 Jade

Jade is an Erudition DPS with excellent all-around qualities. Her mechanics allow her to function as both a main and sub-DPS. She currently mainly serves in The Herta Erudition teams, boasting considerable strength and generally acting as an upgrade over Herta. However, since Jade occupies a separate pull slot and the gap between her and Herta isn't massive, she isn't considered essential for most players. She's a character where players feel satisfied whether they pulled for her or not.

HSR 3.4 Rappa

Rappa is the Erudition main DPS for the Super Break system. In environments with Imaginary weakness, she possesses near-unrivaled AoE performance. Her drawback is the lack of Weakness Implant ability, making her quite reliant on the environment. In the 3.0 era, Rappa successively benefited from buffs for various AoE DPS characters and the Imaginary powerhouse Mydei, leading to top-tier performance across multiple versions – she has had extremely good luck.

Although Rappa has gradually found it harder to benefit from environmental buffs as versions changed, whenever an Imaginary-weak environment reappears, Rappa can still be brought out to showcase her supreme AoE power.

HSR 3.4 Herta

Herta is currently the top-tier 4-star powerhouse. Her rise to fame was similar to Himeko's: almost completely overlooked at launch, but after Pure Fiction debuted, her extremely potent mob-clearing ability made her a highly popular super character.

Following the release of The Herta, Herta received another upgrade, becoming the most commonly used sub-DPS pairing for The Herta. Her strength is extremely high. As a freely given beginner character, Herta can be said to be the most successful 4-star.

HSR 3.4 Anaxa

Anaxa combines main and sub-DPS roles. Her mechanics offer very flexible conversion capabilities, possessing both solid AoE performance and specialized reinforcement for single-target focus. Anaxa provides different buffs when in single-Erudition or dual-Erudition teams. Therefore, she can serve as a sub-DPS in The Herta team, providing stronger team-wide buffs and Weakness Implant capability, or form her own system, bringing multiple supports for a single-core setup.

Due to Anaxa's extremely comprehensive mechanics and her considerable self-buffing capability, she is currently a top contender in the low-investment bracket. She functions well at E0, synergizes excellently with various supports, and is very powerful.

HSR 3.4 The Herta

The Herta is one of the most dazzling main DPS characters of the 3.0 era. She formalized the previously existing dual-Erudition setup into a proper system, providing the entire team with an 80% CRIT DMG boost. She combines extremely strong AoE performance with decent single-target capability. She is the true deity of the Pure Fiction environment and can even find employment in all environments when the buffs are suitable.

Thanks to her super-strong output mechanics, The Herta is one of the two meta-defining main DPS characters of the 3.0 era and one of the three main DPS characters most worth investing in up to E2. Her overall value is extremely high and quite top-tier.

Conclusion

Currently, most Erudition characters remain strong. Many are closely tied to The Herta, while others occupy special niches like Super Break or low-investment main DPS – it's truly a diverse field. Which Erudition character do you enjoy using the most?
