What is Blackjack?

We are all well aware of the standard format of Identity V. But Blackjack is a mode that offers much more dynamic gameplay. While some things have been kept the same, some have also been made better. Just like the standard format, Blackjack features 5 survivors. But in every round, one of the survivors is chosen at random to be the Hunter. Similar to the standard gameplay, survivors are required to decode the cipher, only in Blackjack, they don't do it to open the gates but to acquire cards. Hence, the name Blackjack.

Each card is numbered from 1 to 11. The objective for the survivors is to collect as many cards it required to make the sum close to or equal to 21. If any of the survivors exceeds the number 21, that player is eliminated or buffed. The objective for the Hunter is to stop the survivors from reaching the total by attacking and capturing them.

After getting captured, the survivor is put on the chair and is eliminated for that round. After downing a survivor, Hunter gets the survivors' cards. If the Hunter gets a Blackjack, i.e. an ace and a ten-value card, then the Hunter wins.

Game Phases in Blackjack

The game of Blackjack is divided into two phases:

  1. Dealing Phase
  2. Duel Phase

Dealing Phase

As we discussed Dealing phase is the phase where you are dealt different cards in the range 1-11. The cards drawn by each player are visible to the others unless hidden through an effect.

Apart from number cards, you are also dealt Action cards. These cards have certain abilities which can offer you a strategic advantage in the game. These advantages could include switching your card with another player, replacing your card, hiding your card, etc.

Duel Phase

After the end of the Dealing phase, two players are selected at random. It could be a Hunter and a survivor or two survivors.

If it's a Hunter and a survivor, the will involve a short-timed chase where the Hunter needs to chase the survivor. If the Hunter is successful, the survivor loses their cards. If the survivor escapes or evades the Hunter till the end, then the Hunter loses cards.

On the other hand, if it is two survivors, then both the survivors compete in a short match where both of them need to either decode faster than the other or evade the other through kiting. The winner of the duel could earn action cards or reduce the card count.

Strategies For Acing Blackjack

Blackjack might be a fast and action-packed mode, but there are various strategies through which you can master it and come out on top. Some of these strategies include-

Choose a Decoder: As a survivor, to decode the cipher faster, choose a character with good Decoding buffs such as Gardner or Mechanic. These characters will enable you to decode faster than other players and obtain more cards. To get some cool Decoders, buy Identity V Echoes from the in-game store and decode faster than ever.

Choose a good Kiter: In Identity V, it's not just important to decode but also to evade the Hunter. Going for a character with good Kiting abilities, allows you to evade the Hunter for a longer time and survive to decode the ciphers.

Target the weak Kiter: As a Hunter, try to target those characters that have weak kiting abilities. These characters can be easy targets out of all and can be prioritized to get easy captures.

Prioritize the good ones: If you notice a survivor decoding and collecting cards faster than others, prioritize capturing that survivor to prevent him from succeeding and to obtain a larger number of cards.

Adapt to the game: If you notice that a Hunter is making captures rapidly focus more on kiting than decoding to survive longer in the game. Similarly, if you feel that some decoders are decoding fast and getting cards, then those decoders need to be stopped first.

Keep the count in check: Be it a survivor or a Hunter, you must always keep your cards in check. Do not get carried away in decoding or capturing so much that you get buffed.

Calculate the probabilities: Last but not least, make sure that you always analyze your situation and act accordingly. For example - If you have a total of 17, then the chances of drawing a card of 4 or lower are higher as compared to the possibility of drawing 5 or higher. Therefore, in such situations, you must not shy away from collecting more cards.

Conclusion

To sum it all up, Blackjack is a fast-paced version of the standard Identity V, which provides every player a chance to be the Hunter and to showcase their skills. The key to excel in Blackjack is making the right move at the right time. Observe the game, adapt to it, calculate your chances, and make the smart choice. Remember, at the end of the day, it will all come down to the brightest bulb in the room!
