| HSR 3.8 The Dahlia’s Role and Team Placement Predictions

From the perspective of character tier, late-stage HoYoverse characters tend to retain value. Excluding the gifted character Dr.Ratio, the remaining three—Ruan Mei (v1.6), Sunday (v2.7), and Fugue(v2.7) —still appear in many team comps today.

Focusing on Fugue , as the previous Fire Nihility character, she remains a core component of Break teams. So, what role might The Dahlia play? Will she strengthen an existing team, or serve as a transitional character bridging versions 3.0 to 4.0, paving the way for new playstyle?

Personally, I lean toward the former. From an operational standpoint, without clear information, players are unlikely to invest in a character with uncertain potential. The Dahlia’s possible team placement can be broken into 2 directions:

Firefly Break Team:

Considering the current mainstream Break team composition (Firefly + Fugue + Ruan Mei + Lingsha), only Ruan Mei is Ice character and the earliest release. If The Dahlia replaces Ruan Mei, a “ Full Fire Break team” could be formed. However, Ruan Mei is exceptionally well-designed. To replace her, The Dahlia would need sufficient utility and damage potential.

DoT Team:

After Kafka’s buff and Hysilens’s release, DoT teams have shown strong performance in MoC and Pure Fiction. The Dahlia might replace Black Swan. However, her Fire Nihility role may partially overlap with Jiaoqiu, so it is too early to draw conclusions before her kit is revealed.

Overall Analysis:

HoYoverse is unlikely to frequently buff old playstyle team, especially since Kafka’s buff and Hysilens’s release were relatively recent. Furthermore, Break teams did not receive any powerful new characters throughout version 3.0. Therefore, I lean toward The Dahlia being Firefly’s teammate, fitting the Pinoconi theme.

| The Dahlia’s Backstory

The Dahlia first appeared in the “Myriad Celestia Trailer — A Night of Ever-Flame: Scene 33” and features in Penacony-related story events. According to the background lore, The Dahlia is the daughter of the Annihilation Gang leader, Duke Inferno-the Fire Demon of Fetora, which makes her identity quite extraordinary.

Unfortunately, in the story of Pinoconi, the Annihilation Gang has already been annihilated.

I recall a story about Nihility—some people once attempted to assassinate IX. They were the Annihilation Gang: trash humans too afraid to join the Legion, yet eager to wreak havoc alongside Nanook. They believed IX might be easy to handle because this Aeon is peaceful and thinks there is no purpose to the universe, paths, or life. Apparently, with the assistance of another Aeon, they did indeed launch a plan to assassinate IX. As expected, nobody ever heard from this gang again. This story is practically pointless, except for one detail: the Aeon who assisted the Annihilation Gang was Aha the Elation. Aha thought their idea was fun, so SHE lent them her power for a while. Seriously, I cannot feel elated from any story related to Aha…

She survived Acheron’s assassination attempt on Duke Inferno and interacts with Black Swan through her memories, suggesting she knows Acheron’s identity as an Emanator.

Additionally, do you remember that during the 2rd-Anniversary preview livestream, it was mentioned that version 3.8 would launch the finality mission Memories are the Prelude to Dreams, revealing the true ending of Pinoconi?

It mentions that the inheritance war was concluded with the help of a certain Cremator. Combining this with The Dahlia’s character illustration and partial background, we can boldly speculate—perhaps The Dahlia herself is that Cremator?

| Possible Origin of The Dahlia–Constance’s Name

Dahlia

If HoYoverse did reference The Black Dahlia murder in her design, Dahlia’s white dress could symbolize a reversal of the historical narrative. She is not a victim; instead, as the Cremator, she represents death and mystery, participating as a key figure in Pinoconi’s inheritance war.
