About Rise of Kingdoms Gems
Gems are a resource unlocked as soon as you found your city. They are not required for troop training / upgrades nor any building improvements. The only exception is the Level 25 building upgrade, which requires one Master's Blueprint per building.
Gems can be used to buy items from the Mysterious Merchant, the Shop, or the VIP Shop. You can also exchange them for VIP Points on the VIP screen or spend them directly to speed up training, researching, or building.
